The Aluminium Story
Kinlochleven, Scotland, has a rich history tied to aluminium production, which began in the early 20th century when the village became home to the first “large scale” factory in the world to use hydroelectric power for aluminium smelting. This industrial heritage is preserved in “The Aluminium Story” conservation building, which showcases the village’s significant role in the aluminium industry. Currently, the building is closed for redevelopment, with plans to transform it into a museum and tourist information centre that will highlight not only the history of aluminium in Kinlochleven but also the broader history and natural environment of the area. The project is set to be completed by 2026, aiming to become a key attraction for both locals and visitors.
